we have been in business now for 10 years, designing and building solid wood furniture from local hardwood. during this time we have created a diverse portfolio from curved oak decks to the glengoyne distillary tasting room furniture. we have also diversified into sign-work, heavy timber frames and set up a saw mill and kiln, with which we now produce most of our own kiln dried timber and beam work. although self taught, an engineering and construction background has, i believe, allowed for a different approach to furniture making. designing and building a 2m square natural edged revolving bookcase was certainly a little easier with an engineering background. from the beginning we have worked on the basis that we replace more than we use and as such have planted a few hundred trees to date. (see our environmental policy at (www.dovetailscotland.com) 3 years ago we managed to purchase a small woodland close to our home and obtained planning permission for a workshop and outbuildings for air drying timber. since then we have built the access road and yard and are about to move the saw-milling operation across. unfortunately we have been unable to obtain the finance required to build the main workshop as yet, but remain optimistic that this will happen soon.
